Dr Matthew Wong

Dr Matthew Wong is a Medical Oncologist on the Central Coast, and a former translational researcher at Kolling Institute, Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney. He was a graduate from the University of New South Wales, then underwent general medical training at Gosford and Wyong Hospitals, and subsequently completed his advanced training at Royal North Shore Hospital in 2011.

After acquiring his full qualification in medical oncology, Dr Wong completed his Masters in Medicine in Clinical Epidemiology in 2013, and his PhD on targeted therapies in pancreatic cancer in 2015 at University of Sydney. He has been a staff specialist in medical oncology in Gosford and Wyong District Hospitals since 2013, and currently holds admission and consulting rights at Gosford Private Hospital.

Dr Wong has strong academic and clinic interest in gastrointestinal cancer, lung cancers, and brain tumours. He is also active in research involving molecular targeted therapies and bone targeted agents. He has numerous peer reviewed publications in reputable journals, including Cochrane Systematic Review and Clinical Cancer Research.

Dr Wong is a recipient of several national and international grants, including the AMGEN research scholarship, NIH grant and Australasian Epidemiological Association Award. He remains active in scientific and clinical research, and is currently working at bringing his PhD research in pancreatic cancer into early clinical phase trial, to improve the outcome of this deadly disease.

With a background in quality of life research and training in quality and safety of health care services, Dr Wong is a strong advocate of patient oriented and holistic management. He is a current associate member of Medical Oncology Group Australia (MOGA), American Association of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), American Association of Cancer Research (AACR), Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trial Group Australia (AGITG), International Association for the Study of Lung cancer (IASLC) and Cooperative Trial Group for Neuro-Oncology (COGNO).
